It is not for OSRS gold everybody, accurate that. It's the exact same way that Stardew Valley is a phenomally game that is magnificent, but not for everyone. Stardew valley has the same"grind" pretty considerably, but it doesn't make it a poor game. It is the exact same in Oldschool Runescape, it's a grind, yes, but it's so relaxing just to chill out and grind some thing for a bit.
Not everything is grinding either, you can do a crapton of PvM or PK (or DMM), or perform some minigames like castle wars. And"overpowered equipment hidden behind arbitrarily low drop rates" What do you mean lol, a twisted bow is around 2Billion OSRS gold, which is around $1500(?) , that is quite fcking expensive for something which seemingly has a"very low" drop rate.
The question is... why would you receive a 99 ability? Theres no need to max any skill to 99 to play Runescape. Yes some end game PVM demands a FEW non-combat skills to be quite large (not even near 99 however ). Im now 109 combat (126 is max) in my primary, and all my non-combat abilities are 70 or reduced, which can be rather easy to achieve and large enough for pretty much everything that I want to do. Im playing with really casual. There are weeks which im playing 1 hour. I do anything I was doing when I logged out and jump and can advance back in at any time.
Because you would like it to be, it's as grindy. I've been playing OSRS since release and I still do not possess a single 99 ability because it's just not necessary to enjoy- or be good at Runescape. This is not like WoW, where your route is compact and everyone has almost the same goals.
