The main creteria for giving the usmle is that you did your medicine from an approved medical college. You can give step-1 after finishing your basic non-clinical subjects.

Any additional distinctions and achievements will greatly help ...  more

To prepare for the usmle, get the kaplan textbooks for the usmle. You can get more information in the following sites www.usmle.org www.ecfmg.org . There is also specialised coaching available in several kaplan centers in india but it may cost you around Rs. 50,000 per usmle step. But I feel it is worth it. Since you are in chennai, it has a big Kaplan center. Just google kaplan and chennai and you may find the actual address and the phone number of the center. After preparation you can take the step-1 exam in the prometric center in chennai or in other metros  less

    Hi Jaden,
This is just a doubt. A patient got admitted with complaints of tiredness. She was a known diabetic patient and the blood sugar at the time of admission was 450 . I gave her human actrapid and sent for investigations including for acetone. She was dehydrated and I started her on Normal Saline (NS). I would like to know if RL (ringer lactate) can be given at this stage. or is RL contraindicated in uncontrolled DM with high blood sugar ? Diabetic ketoacidosis. If so why?
